Monterrey Semi Finals

Ivanovic v Garcia

Ivanovic leads the head to heads 1-0. It was in 2014 on clay and she won in 2 sets.

The 6 month stats all favour Ivanovic. She continued to serve well in the last round losing just 13 points on her serve in the whole match. She saved 4 of the 5 bread points she faced. Mladenovic didn’t serve well and was broken 4 times.

Garcia’s opening set with Rybarikova was a low quality affair. Neither served well. Garcia took it 7-5 and Rybarikova retired. Garcia has won 4 of her last 10 against top 10 players. However 1 was due to a walkover, 1 to a retirement and another was over Jankovic. I don’t give her much chance today.

Bacsinszky v Errani

Head to heads are 1-1. Both meetings were on clay. Errani won the most recent in 2012 when Bacsinszky retired. Bacsinszky won in 3 sets in 2009.

The 6 month stats show Errani better on return but Bacsin sky is better on serve. Bacsinszky has a better record against common opponents. Bacsinszky’s serve hadn’t been great in her first 2 matches but she was excellent from the line in the quarter final. With 65% 1st serves in, and 70% points won on 2nd serve.

Errani finally ended Pavlyuchenkova’s 100% record at this tournament but it was a very low quality match judging by the stats. Pavlyuchenkova served for the 1st set. There were 14 breaks of serve. Errani’s serve was weak as expected but Pavlyuchenkova played well below the standard of her last match and only managed to win 6 from 28 points on second serve. Even so, the sets were still close.

I would prefer a better price on Bacsinszky but I think she takes this one.
