Serbia Open – Wednesday

11:00 – Andreev v Karlovic

Rankings are 50 and 33. Head to heads are 2-0 to Karlovic. They have never played on clay.

This should be quite close. Andreev has played more matches on clay than Karlovic this season with Karlo playing his first one yesterday.

Karlovic wins 91% of his service games but his style of play doesn’t really suit the slower surface.

Andreev hasn’t had too much success on clay this year and my first gut feeling was  that Karlovic would be favourite. However if you analyse the scores in the sets that Andreev has lost you see that there was only one break of serve between the players. A little luck and the results could have been different.

If Karlovic starts serving very well then he can be backed on serve but unless he can finish  the points very quickly he could struggle as the match goes on.

Andreev wins 73% of his service games and can also be backed on serve.

I’d expect Andreev to win in 2 tight sets.

Update: Andreev won 6-4, 7-5.

13:00 – Querrey v Korelev

Rankings are 22 and 73. Head to heads are 1-0 to Korelev.

This is the first recent tournament where Korelev has made it past the first round.

Querrey reached the final of the US Clay Court Championships last month so is fairly comfortable on the slower surface.

Querrey wins 87% of his service games. He also has a decent touch around the court which is useful on clay.

Back Querrey on serve.

Update: Querrey won 6-3, 6-4.
