07:00 – Soderling v Tipsarevic
Rankings are 5 and 37. Head to heads are 1-0 to Soderling.
Soderling has reached the quarter finals of his last 3 tournaments including the US Open. His form hasn’t been terrible but there have been far too many unforced errors for him to trouble the top players. Ferrer made him look quite ordinary last week in their match.
Tipsarevic was impressive in his last match against Golubev. There was no sign of the injury that has troubled him recently.
This could be a tight match. Tipsarevic loves to play the top players and if he starts well he has a chance.
Soderling often starts slowly and finds himself a break or even a set down. If he allows Tipsarevic to get away from him I’m not sure he is in the form to come back easily.
Both are pretty solid on serve but watch the opening couple of games before entering the market.
If holding comfortably early then they can both be backed on serve. I feel whoever takes the first set will win the match.
Soderling has to be my pick for the match but he needs his serve to be firing on all cylinders.
Update: Soderling won 6-3, 7-6.
