18:00 – Fish v Youzhny
Rankings are 101 and 15. Head to heads are 1-1 although they haven’t played since the Olympics of 2004.
Youzhny came through a tough match against Wawrinka in the last round. His serve didn’t start to work until the second set. Whatever his problems were in the first set he sorted them out and I don’t expect him to start as badly today.
Fish is having a good tournament. He seems to perform better on home soil with his supporters behind him. He rarely gets past the first round although reached the semi final at the Delray Beach event a month ago.
Youzhny wins 82% of his service games to Fish’s 76%.
Back Youzhny on serve.
Update: Youzhny started off better than he did the previous day. Fish didn’t look comfortable at all and was soon a break down.
Late in the first set Fish took a fall and hurt his back. The price on Youzhny dropped and I hedged at around 1.16. If Fish had dropped out before the end of the first set all bets were void so I thought there was little point letting it run. If Fish was patched up to continue his price was likely to increase when play resumed.
Youzhny finished off the first set but Fish quit after 1 game of the second set so the bets were paid out 🙂
Youzhny won 6-1, 1-0 (ret)
20:00 – Gonzalez v Soderling
Rankings are 11 and 7. Head to heads are 4-4.
They usually have very tight matches and today should be the same. Gonzalez beat an in-form Monaco in the last round and Soderling continued his great run of form making short work of Petzschner yesterday.
Soderling wins 87% of his service games and Gonzalez wins 85%. They are both averaging a first serve percentage of 62.
Back Soderling on serve. You could also back Gonzalez on his serves and if you choose that option I recommend placing all trades on Soderling’s ladder.
I would pick Soderling to win.
Update: A 3 setter but 2 of the 3 sets were very one sided.
Soderling won 6-0, 6-7, 6-2.
