Sony Ericsson Open – Wednesday

18:00 – Henin v Wozniacki

Rankings are 33 and 2. They haven’t played before.

Henin is having a very good week beating Dementieva, Cibulkova and Zvonereva to get to this stage. She hasn’t lost a set so far.

Wozniacki has started very slowly in 2 of her 3 matches and lost the opening set. If she does the same today its hard to see her coming back.

Either use the scalping/15-40 methods or back Henin from the start.

Update: Henin broke in the very first game and it looked like being a very quick match. However Wozniacki immediately broke back and we had ourselves a match. I didn’t have live pics for most of the first set but neither player seemed to be able to take control. henin served for the set at 6-5 but couldn’y manage it. That took it to a tie break which Wozniacki won.

Henin then called for the trainer and Wozniacki’s price started to crash. They patched up Henins problem ( back injury?) and she started the second set. Wozniacki seemed more troubled by Henin’s injury than Henin did and was quickly 0-40 down. She came back to win the game.

From that point Henin seemed to get on top and took the set. In the third set it was close in the opening games but Henin broke serve. Wozniacki fought hard but Henin was so solid on serve that there was only going to be one winner.

She won 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

20:00 – Roddick v Almagro

Roddick wasn’t very convincing in the early stages of the opening set last night. He eventually got his act together to pull back from 1-4 down to take the set in a tie break.

Almagro came through a very tough match with a crowd more suited to a football match. His last 2 matches have been 3 setters.

Roddick starts as a strong favourite on Betfair at 1.22 but should trade higher during the first set. He rarely runs away with the opening set against decent opposition.

Lay Roddick from the start and hedge after a break of serve.

Update: Roddick DID trade higher…….for about 2 points in the first game. He seemed very comfortable right from the start and was able to dictate the majority of points.

It was a disappointing performance from Almagro. He played some good tennis at times  but never really looked like winning.  He looked tired but he really shouldn’t have been even though he had played a couple of tough 3 setters on the 2 previous days.

Roddick won 6-3, 6-3.
