16:00 – Almagro v Chardy
Almagro has been playing very well this season and has become much harder to beat on hard courts rather than only on clay.
Chardy has a big serve but needs it to be firing well if he is to have any chance today.
Almagro doesn’t have a huge serve but it is very effective. He gets 60% of first serves in and wins 83% of his service games. Chardy wins 73% of service games.
Back Almagro on serve. If Chardy seems to be holding easily then you could back both players on their own serves. I’d recommend placing all trades on the same ladder ( ie Almagro’s as his price is below 2.00)
I’d expect Almagro on recent form to win the match.
Update: Almagro started very well and took the first set easily. In the second set Chardy started to play much better and was soon a break up. Almagro pulled that back but Chardy levelled the match in a long tie break.
The start of the 3rd set was quite close with both players having the opportunity to break but then Chardy began to fall apart.
Almagro won 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
23:00 – Isner v Ferrero
Rankings are 21 and 14. They haven’t played before.
We know how strong Isner is on serve. He wins 91% of his service games and average nearly 16 aces per match.
Ferrero wins 81% of his service games and has been in excellent form in 2010.
I think both players will find it difficult to break the other’s serve and we could see at least 1 tie break.
I’ll be backing Isner on serve and I expect him to take a tight match but he will need his serve to be at its very best.
Update: This one started too late for me so didn’t trade it.
Looking at the scores Isner’s serve wasn’t up to its normal standard in the opening set, made an appearance in the second and then tailed off in the 3rd!
Ferrero won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
