Stockholm Open – Monday

19:00 – Nieminen v Berrer

Rankings are 45 and 52. Head to heads are 1-0 to Berrer.

Nieminen has played some great tennis over recent weeks and has reached the quarter final at Metz, the final in Thailand and the quarter final in Japan. He paid the price for that and had to pull out of the Japan quarter final with fatigue. A week’s rest should have sorted that out and his confidence must remain high.

Berrer beat Berdych in China but whilst he played well that result was more down to Berdych’s slump in form.

They both have solid serves and have held serve 81% and 80% over the last 3 months. Berrer’s second serve is a potential weak spot.

Neither player is the best returner in the world although Nieminen is the better of the two. I would expect him to get the first break.

As long as Nieminen is back to full strength I expect him to take this in straight sets.

Back Nieminen on serve.

Update: Nieminen won 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
