Bondarenko v Peer
Should be good match. The market has them very close with Peer slight favourite at 1.89 . She has looked the better player this week and came through the quarter final very comfortably. I expect there to be a few swings in price and this could go to 3 sets. Peer should come through based on current form even though her opponent is ranked 27 places higher. Peer won their only other meeting but that was in 2006.
15-40 is the strategy to use. If the break comes late in the first set, back the leader and green up at the end of the first set.
Update: A close first set went to Bonderenko 7-5 after Peer had broken serve earlier. I think Peer was 4-2 up in the first. From that point Peer’s game fell apart. She lost the second set 6-1. Many of the games went to deuce but she was pretty awful. Several opportunities to use 15-40 though on 1 occasion the server pulled back to deuce.
Bacsinszky v Szavay
Szavay is a strong favourite for this one. She is also the local girl so the small cowd will be on her side. Szavay came through a tough quarter final against Garbin that was full of errors by both players. I think her price of 1.27 is too low and I would expect that to move out during the first set.
Bacsinszky isnt used to still being in the tournament at the end of the week so she might be a little overawed by the situation. She may start strongly and tail off towards the end.
Szavay to win in 2 sets. 15-40 should work well, or wait for her price to move up during the first set before backing her to win.
Update: Szavay won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The favorite was just too strong for her opponent.
