A bit more painting for me today. It’s not a big house but it feels like it when you’re decorating the damn thing.
A quick trade on Woz proved fruitful. No doubt she’ll let Stosur back in at some stage…
Niculescu reached the final in Luxembourg last year and has managed to defend those points. I’m not sure she will be able to go one better though as she takes on Venus Williams.
They have never played before but Nic would seem to be outgunned. Williams starts as a fairly strong favourite at 1.32 but I would expect that trade higher before the American uses her vastly greater experience of finals to take another one.
Update: No higher price. Williams won 6-2, 6-3.
Del Potro has been below his best this week. 5 of the 7 sets he has played have been tie breaks.
Zemlja has has a storming week with wins over Malisse, Haas and Tipsarevic.
The market has Del Potro at 1.12 but I expect this to be very close. Its a cheap lay and I feel it just has to go higher even if Del Potro wins in 2 tie breaks.
Update: Del Potro traded at 1.49 in the first set. Zemlja was broken serving to take the set intot a tie break.
Del Potro won 7-5, 6-3.
Probably the match of the day is Tsonga against Berdych who meet in the final in Stockholm. Their head to heads are 3-2 to Berdych and they have won alternate matches. It’s Tsonga’s turn today!
Both have looked solid this week. Berdych hasn’t lost a set and Tsonga has lost just one which was to Baghdatis in their semi final.
Both are capable of under performing in finals but today I am favouring Tsonga. The crowd seem to love him there and he feeds from the support.
If it goes to 3 then the stats are in favour of Berdych as he has won both their matches that went to distance but I’ll stick with the Frenchman.
Update: tsonga took the first set and was a break up in the second. He was broken at 4-3 and Berdych took the set. As the stats predicted Berdych took the decider.
Berdych won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
