Finals day. The Swiss Open looks like its going to be difficult to call with Tipsarvic giving up a 4-1 lead. Leaving trades to run hasn’t been easy this week!
The Johansson/Hercog and Monaco Haas matches are covered in the punting tips. That leaves the two american finals.
Roddick’s return to form continued against John Isner and he beat the top seed 6-4 in the third set.
Against Muller he leads the head to heads 3-1 and has won the last 3 meetings in straight sets.
Muller was a surprise winner (for me anyway) against Soeda. He has to consider himself lucky to still be in the tournament as he was losing to Fish when the American injured himself in a collision with the net post and was forced to retire.
1.28 on Roddick doesn’t offer much value especially if Muller serves well. 1.40 makes it interesting and the first set could be close enough to give us at least that. Home advantage for Roddick doesn’t make Muller’s task any easier.
Update: Roddick was terrible in the first set although Muller took his chances well. Having lost the first set Roddick took the second in a tie break and then won the decider fairly easily.
Roddick won 1-6, 7-6, 6-2.
Bartoli starts as slight underdog on Betfair at 2.20 . She is top seed and today’s opponent Cibulkova is second seed.
They have very different tournaments. Bartoli has needed 3 sets in every round whereas Cibulkova has yet to lose a set. Cibulkova also had a much tougher draw with her last 2 matches being against Ursula Radwanska and Petrova.
Technically Bartoli leads the head to heads 3-2. However Bartoli’s last “win” was when Cibulkova withdrew before the match and in the match before that Cibulkova was leading 6-1, 4-1 when Bartoli retired.
This looks like a 3 setter and Cibulkova has shown more consistent play this week so she has the edge for me.
Update: Cibulkova won 6-1, 7-5.
