Swiss Open – Wednesday

12:00 – Brands v Gasquet

Rankings are 76 and 47. They haven’t played before.

Gasquet has won 11 of his last 12 matches on clay. He did well here last year.

Brands is much happier on the faster courts. He has a consistent first serve at 67% and holds serve on clay 79% of the time.

Gasquet’s first serve percentage on clay is lower at 61% but he holds serve 80% of the time. He is a much better clay court player and I expect him to win in straight sets.

Back Gasquet on serve or from the start to green up at the end of the first set.

Update: Gasquet won 6-7, 6-3, 6-0.

16:00 – Andreev v Chiudinelli

Rankings are 88 and 63. Head to heads are 1-0 to Andreev.

Andreev is moving steadily down the rankings. 12 months ago he was ranked around 40. He has a decent first serve although he seems to be missing with it more than he used to. He wins just 50% of points on his second serve.

Clay isn’t Andreev’s favourite surface although he did reach the quarter finals of the Serbia Open in May.

Local boy Chiudinelli beat Bellucci in three sets in the last round. He reached the quarter finals of the Mercedes Cup 2 weeks ago. He is comfortable enough on clay holding serve 81% of the time.

If Andreev’s first serve is working well then this could be a close match  but home advantage gives the edge to Chiudinelli.

Back Chiudinelli on serve and Andreev on his IF he is holding comfortably.

Update: They finally got to finish the match aftr all the rain.

Andreev won 6-3, 6-7, 7-6.
