Due to start at 5:30 pm
Kyrgios 1.73, Ruud 2.34
This will be their first meeting.
Their win percentages are very even in the last 12 months and also in 2019. Kyrgios has the higher ROI.
Kyrgios has only played 4 clay matches in the last 2 seasons. Longer term clay results favour him. He beat in form Daniil Medvedev in 3 sets in the last round. He hit 15 aces, won 79% of points on his first serve and 68% of points on his second serve. He faced just 4 break points in 3 sets and was broken once. He was huge underdog in that match.
Ruud beat Dan Evans in 3 sets in the main draw after coming through the qualifying rounds. He had to work hard for the win and lost the second round 6-0. He was broken 5 times from Evans’ 16 break chances.
If Kyrgios is as focused in this match as he was in the last, he wins. Back him around 1.80.
Update: There was only 1 break point in the first set. That was taken by Ruud in Kyrgios’ first service game. In set 2 they were level until 3-3 when Kyrgios was broken again. This time he broke straight back. The set went to a tie break which Kyrgios won.
Kyrgios broke in the first game of the deciding set but as he served in the next game some of the crowd were getting under his skin and it affected him. He was broken and shouted abuse to someone in the crowd. He already had code violations in the match and this time he was given a game penalty.
The umpire had called the referee to the court but when Kyrgios packed his bag and walked off court the match was given to Ruud by default.
