WTA Bronx Open, New York, Semi Final: Wang v Giorgi

Due to start at 7:30 pm

Wang 1.92, Giorgi 2.06

Giorgi has won both their previous matches. The last one was in Prague in May 2017. She won on a clay court in 3 sets. The other was in Shenzhen in January 2017 and Wang won just 2 games on a hard court.

Overall results favour Wang in the last 12 months and also in 2019. Her hard court results are also stronger.

Giorgi played a very strong match to beat Cornet last night. She had been comfortable against Gasparyan in the first round but needed a 3rd set tie break to beat Petkovic in round 2.

Wang played a bizarre match in the last round. She didn’t hold serve once in the 1st set. She won 6 points on her own serve in set 1. Things changed in set 2 and Blinkova won just 5 points on her own serve. The third set was more competitive. Wang choked when serving for the match but broke serve again to take the match.

Some value on Giorgi and she should take at least a set. Lay Wang around 1.65 and remove liability at 2.10. We have a decent chance of 3 sets. Lay the set 1 winner. If Giorgi continues to play the way she has been, she wins.

WTA Bronx Open, New York, Quarter Final: Siniakova v Pera

Due to start at 4 pm

Siniakova 1.59, Pera 2.58

Siniakova has won both their previous matches. They last played in Sydney in January this year. She won on a hard court in straight sets. Both their matches were on hard courts.

Over all results are a little better for Pera.  Their 12 month hard court results favour Siniakova. They are even in 2019.

Pera was given a wild card this week. She has been the underdog in both rounds. Kudermetova had a really poor match in the first round and took just 2 games from Pera. Strycova gave her a few more problems and took their first set. Pera then took control and lost just 3 more games.

Siniakova has been serving better than usual this week. Yafan Wang had a pretty bad day on serve in the first round. Five double faults and she won just 7 of her 27 second serve points. In the second round Potapova was injured and retired when 6-0, 3-0 behind.

Pera can be competitive and can take this to 3 sets. Lay Siniakova if she breaks first. Back her around 1.90.
