WTA Cincinnati, Second Round: Sabalenka v Zheng

Due to start at 4 pm

Sabalenka 1.53, Zheng 2.84

Saisai Zheng has won both their previous matches. They last met in the final in San Jose last month. She won in 2 close sets. The other was also on a hard court in March 2017 in Zhuhai, China and also ended in 2 sets.

Overall results in the last 12 months and also in 2019 are quite even but slightly favour Sabalenka. She also leads on hard courts although Zheng has the higher ROI.

Zheng won the title in San Jose 2 weeks ago. She had an easy win over Kuzmova this week. She had some strong performances on hard courts in the early part of the season. She reached the quarter finals in Acapulco in February and in Hua Hin in January.

Sabalenka lost to Zheng in the San Jose final. In the last round this week she beat Martic in straight sets. She started the season strongly on hard courts winning the title in Shenzhen and reaching the third round at the Australian Open in January. She also reached the third round in Indian Wells in March

Some value on Zheng as underdog. We have a good chance of seeing 3 sets. Lay Sabalenka around 1.35 to 1.40 and remove liability at 1.80.

Update: Sabalenka won 6-4, 6-3 but we got the prices for the trade on her.

WTA Western and Southern Open, Cincinnati, Final: Muguruza v Halep, 7pm

Muguruza 2.04, Halep 1.95

Muguruza leads their previous meetings 2-1. Their last match was in April 2015 on clay in Stuttgart. Halep won in 3 sets after Muguruza took set 1. Muguruza’s last win was on an indoor hard court in a Fed Cup tie in Romania in February 2015.  She won in straight sets. In September 2014 she won in 3 sets on a hard court in Wuhan. .

Slightly better overall results for Halep this year though Muguruza’s ROI is higher. Hard court results this season favour Muguruza.

Muguruza

Muguruza played an excellent match to beat Pliskova in straight sets in the semi final. She faced just 3 break points which she saved. Both Kuznetsova and Keys had taken her to 3 sets in previous rounds but she was more focused against the world number 1.

Halep lost just 3 games to Stephens in her semi final. She didn’t face a single break point. That was her easiest win of the week although she has not lost a set so far. She has faced a lot of breaks points though and faced 17 against Konta (broken 4 times).

We have a good chance of 3 sets and a little value on Muguruza as underdog. I favour the Spaniard to take the title.Lay whoever breaks first as I think we will get a few price swings.

Update: Muguruza won easily in 2 sets. She lost just 1 game. Another very poor final from Halep
