Ok if you’re reading this and you don’t yet have your wife/girlfriend/partner’s Valentine card….you’re in BIG trouble!
Baghdatis has beaten Gasquet in both their previous meetings. He hasn’t lost a set to the Frenchman. Betfair stats show that he beat Gasquet in Rome in 2011. They didn’t play in Rome and Baggy lost to Tsonga in the first round!
Gasquet has had a great start to the season. He has won 2 tournaments and reached the 4th round in Melbourne. His standard dropped a level in his 1st round match with Troicki and I think he is ready for a few days off.
The market is still keeping faith with Gasquet though and he starts at 1.45 which I feel is a decent lay price.
Update: Baggy played well but Gasquet clearly tired.
Baghdatis won 6-4, 6-4.
Wozniacki starts as underdog against Barthel. Woz has won both their previous matches in straight sets although their most recent match in may last year ended 6-4, 7-6. Barthel’s form is much better than it was last year and whilst its very difficult to pick an outright winner this one has 3 sets written all over it.
Update: The first set was as tight as expected. Excellent price swings if you were on the right side of them! The set was decided in a tie break and went the way of Wozniacki.
In the second set Barthel was broken early and at times she looked like she had given up. Wozniacki took a 5-1 lead and Barthel resorted to swinging almost wildly. It worked for a few games and she fought back to 5-3 but it was too little too late.
Wozniacki won 7-6, 6-3.
