Suarez Navarro is becoming tough to beat on any surface. She beat Arvidsson in straight sets in the last round although had to come back from 0-3 in the second set.

Today she is up against Grass specialist Pironkova whose game just seems to work so much better on this surface.

Suarez Navarro starts as slight favourite but I’d be surprised if we don’t see Pironkova below 1.70 in the early games. If we do then I will be laying her as despite Pironkova having a better record on grass I think Carla is a much improved all round player this season and she will edge this in 3 sets.

Update: Suarez Navarro made an awful start to the match and it looked like Pironkova was going to run away with it but Carla fought back to 1 set all.

In the decider Pironkova took a 2-0 lead before the match was suspended due to rain. Carla broke straight back when the match resumed and then went up a break but Pironkova levelled the set. A late break gave Carla the win.

Suarez Navarro won 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Hampton and Safarova played out an epic match at the French open. Safarova led 5-2 in the third set before losing the next 5 games.

Being on grass tips things slightly in Safarova’s favour as she has a great deal more experience on the surface but this will be a close match.

Hampton had picked out Radwanska as the player she wanted to play on grass and that was obvious by the way she went about over powering the top seed. She perhaps wasn’t as motivated yesterday against Hsieh as her win wasn’t as easy as I had expected. I think she will be up again for this match though and we will see a few swings.

If Hampton can play in a similar style to the Rad match then I give her the edge.

Update: She did it again. Safarova served for the match in the second set but was pulled back to a tie break which Hampton won. The American took the third set.

Hampton won 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.

I think Flipkens has played herself into a bit of form this week and came through a tough double tie break match with Krajcek. Today’s opponent was fortunate that Rybarikova retired in their match yesterday and I expect Radwanska to have real problems with Flipkens’ game on grass.

1.60 is a little short for me as I feel it should be nearer 1.70-1.75 so if we see that price on her I will start entering my stake. URad will have to serve a lot better than she has been doing to have a chance.

Tomic and Simon should have a tight battle this evening. Tomic served extremely well against Benneteau to win in a third set tie break.

Simon didn’t have things easy in his first match of the grass season coming through in 2 tie break sets against Kyle Edmund.

They have never played each other so I expect the opening set to be cagey and we could well see a tie break. I’m not sure Simon will be ready to beat Tomic if the Aussie can  repeat his form from yesterday but I expect 3 sets and tie breaks.
