Thursday 23rd May 2013

It was a long day yesterday but Brussels managed to catch up a lot from their rain delays.

The betting tips have had a rough couple of days which has prompted me to amend the staking. Uncertain weeks like this one ( and the one at the start of April ). All 3 tips yesterday lost the opening set 5-7. Berlocq looked set to make the only comeback but a rain delay blew the momentum had had in the second set and he won just 1 more game when they resumed.

Wozniacki bombed out in 2 sets as did Tipsarevic. The over all standard felt a little better yesterday and I guess those that are still in are there because they want to do well THIS week regardless of the French Open starting at the weekend.

Bouchard looks a very strong favourite to beat Tatishvili. The value has been sucked out though as she dropped 10 ticks over night from 1.50 . I’ll wait for a little higher and 1.60 or better gets my interest.

Update: Bouchard looked like she was going to win this one easily but she gave up a 3-0 lead in the opening set. She took the next 3 games to win the set and the second set was more straight forward.

Bouchard won 6-3, 6-2.

Hradecka has been in poor form until this week. The markets before today  haven’t realised what is different. She has her serve back. Basically she is nothing without it and as long as it continues to work well I expect her to be too strong for Larsson.  An entry price above evens would be excellent.

Update:  Carried over to Friday

I’ll be laying Monfils below 1.35 against Haase. They only played once before which was also on clay and it went to 3 sets. (2011). Haase played extremely well to beat Isner yesterday and I feel that even if Monfils gives it 100% Haase can keep it close.

Update: Wrong. Monfils broke in the very first game and took the set with a double break. Haase broke early in set 2 but Monfils has obviously decided that he wants to win this one. He won 5 games in a row to take the match.

Monfils won 6-2, 6-3.

  1. Hello Shark, definitely it’s been a bumpy week.

How do you see Querrey vs. Vasselin?

Querrey’s clay season this year has been as incipient as 2 or 3 games. I don’t know how focused he is on this tournament or if he’s willing to endure any more rounds before RG.
Vasselin is playing in his home country and he’s more seasoned on clay, though in every tournament he hasn’t made it past the second round. He needed three sets against Berankis, so I just don’t know up to which point he can be reliable.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks again! 🙂

    1. I had Berankis as slight favourite in that one so I arent worried he took 3 sets. I think he has a decent chance (Vasselin)
