A much better day yesterday in terms of predictability although at times the tennis was dire. Pattaya was completely rained off. They started this morning at 4am but by the time I got up at 5:45 the rain had returned. The only real shock result so far today is that Ivanovic lost to Morita in 3 sets.
Cibulkova is back on court for the first match since her weak showing at the Australian Open. Her opponent is Kiki Bertens who reached the main draw s Lucky Loser having lost to Razzano in the qualifying stages.
Bertens beat Paszek in the first round of the main draw and whilst she played some decent tennis at times Paszek never really looked like challenging.
Cibulkova starts at 1.35 but I think we will see a higher price in the early games. Cibulkova reached the quarter finals in 2011 but didn’t take part last year. Favourites have been struggling this week although most have made it through and I expect this match to be the same with Cibulkova winning in 2 tight sets.
Zakopalova made an awful start to her last match against Medina Garrigues. She was broken twice in the first set and it wasn’t until very late in the second that she started to take control. She took the third set 6-0.
Suarez Navarro has made a decent start to the season but remains inconsistent. She can get herself into winning positions in sets and then throw them away. In the first round she was as underdog against Niculescu in straight sets. At the Oz Open she took Kuznetsova to 3 sets.
Zakopalova starts at 1.49 but as she is capable of another slow start I will be waiting for a much higher price before getting involved. A very good chance that we see 3 sets here.
