Thursday 9th Feb

Apologies for the late post. Too many distractions at home this morning.

Wickmayer v McHale:

Wickmayer had an easy last match as Craybas retired after the first set.

McHale played a solid enough match against fellow American Lepchenko. She struggled a little with Lepchenko’s big hitting early in the match and she will face more of the same today.

This should be closer than the odds suggest. Wickmayer starts at 1.51 . Something in her favour is that McHale’s record outside America isn’t good. She rarely ( if ever) gets past the second round in Europe.

I’d say its worth a lay at the start on Wickmayer. She is quite capable of spraying a few balls wide in the early games.

Good chance of 3 sets but I have to go with Wickmayer to come through in the end.

Update: We got a slightly higher price in the first set when McHale had a break point but it was a pretty one sided set. McHale took an early lead in the second set but Wickmayer soon broke back.

Wickmayer won 6-2, 7-5.
