Granollers v Cilic:
If Cilic was going to suffer a let down in form after his tournament win last week then it would have been in the first round against Raonic. he didn’t and even though Raonic was below his best Cilic dealt with the match well.
Granollers was able to take advantage of Dolgopolov’s continued run of poor form to win their match in straight sets.
Head to heads are 4-0 to Cilic which doesn’t look good for the Spaniard.
Granollers’ biggest problem will be Cilic’s serve which looked to be flowing well against Raonic. Cilic starts at 1.35 which isn’t the best price to be backing Cilic who, even when playing well can throw in a poor early service game.
I can’t see Cilic losing this match but I will be hoping for a price nearer 1.50 before backing.
Update: Cilic was impressive in the first set and was in total control. I traded out after the set and moved to another game. Incredibly ( to me anyway ) Granollers won the next 2 sets.
Wawrinka v Haase:
Head to heads are 2-0 to Wawrinka . Both matches were three setters.
Wawrinka played well in hsi first round match with Dodig taking it in straight sets. Haase played a very good first set against Murray’s replacement Chiudinelli but he allowed his level to drop in the second set and needed a tie break to win in straight sets.
Wawrinka will be keen to do well in front of his home crowd and that will give him a boost against a player who hasn’t been in a great run of form.
Wawrinka starts at 1.46 and given that he can often start slowly and also quite frequently loses the first set that is too low for me. Before his first round win this week he has lost the opening set in the last 6 matches.
I expect him to come through the match but I will be laying from the start. He should be focussed from the start though and any sign that he isn’t starting slowly will be the sign to get out of the lay.
Update: Wawrinka did have a slow start and lost the first set. He won the next 2 sets easily.
Wawrinka won 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
