Thursday’s matches

Dodig hasn’t quite found his best form so far this week but has managed to get the job  done. Gabashvilli really shouldn’t trouble him today. Gabashvilli has a decent serve but Dodig should be getting into his stride for this one. Back from the start.

Update: Why aren’t I surprised? Dodig started terribly and was totally outplayed in the first set. he then won the next 2 sets easily to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Giraldo has equalled his results from last year so will perhaps be a little less motivated for this one. I feel he would need to be at the very top of his game to beat Tursunov. The favourite’s price of 1.56 doesn’t offer much value from the start and i’d prefer nearer 1.75 before getting involved. Giraldo’s serve is weaker but he has better stats on return of serve so this could be another tight match which will probably see a tie break at some stage. I wil wait to see how they start but will be looking to back Tursunov once he shows he has settled into the match.

Update:  Tursunov got off to a great start to take the first set. Giraldo fought back to take the second  and  they were 4-4 in the third when the match was interrupted. They resume tomorrow.

Venus Williams is back on court against Hantuchova. The head to heads are 10-0 in the American’s favour and in those 10 matches Hantuchova has won just 2 sets. Williams had a tough first match back after injury against Petkovic but her second round match with Ivanovic was surprisingly one sided.  Her fitness has to be a concern and we’ll have to wait to see how much energy she has for this match. I expect her to be fine and to take the match but I’ll wait for prices over 1.50 before getting in. I think this is hantuchova’s best chance of beating Williams but I think she will be too intimidated to take advantage.

Update: Hantuchova played a superb match and was a set and a break up. Williams broke back and broke again to level the match. Williams’ lack of match fitness gave Hantuchova the chance to take the match 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

Stosur’s serve seems to be going well this week and she loves playing on grass. Zvonareva may be tired both mentally and physically from her tough 3 setter with Serena Williams. I’m going with a small back on Stosur from the start and will see how the match progresses. Stosur has won their last 6 matches!

Update: Stosur seemed affected by the wind in the first set and her serve just wasn’t at its best. Zvonareva took the set and was 2-0 up in the second. Stosur won a late break back and took the set in a tie break. Stosur took the deciding set and the match 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
