Thursday’s matches

Lets hope the weather is a little better over there today!

Wawrinka plays Anderson who beat Andy Murray in straight sets in the last round.  Wawrinka has been excellent so far and has served better than I have seen him before. His starting price of 1.63 reflects Anderson’s win. However that win for Anderson must have been one of the best of his career.  To knock out the 4th ranked player in the world who is also the defending champion will have ensured that the South African didn’t get much sleep after the match and he  will have been sluggish yesterday. His win will also have attracted a lot of press attention which must be distracting.  Not the best prep to beat an in form Wawrinka.

They have played once before which was also on a hard court with Wawrinka winning in straight sets but with just 1 break between them in each set.

Anderson’s serve can keep this tight but unless Wawrinka returns to his normal standard the Swiss player will take this.

Update: Wawrinka started poorly and had several double faults in the first few service games but he managed to get the first break of serve which was enough to give him the set. Anderson pulled back in the second set but it was Wawrinka who came through 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Vinci knocked out Wozniacki yesterday in straight sets and today is 3.55 to beat Ivanovic. Anna leads the head to heads 4-1 but it was Vinci who won their last match on a hard court in February this year. She won in straight sets.

I will have to start with a lay of Ivanovic at 1.39 .

Update: This brought the biggest profit of the day for me. Vinci won 7-6, 6-2.

Dodig took out Nadal in a third set tie break having been battered 6-1 in the first set. Today he takes on Tipsarevic who beat Verdasco in another 3 set marathon.

Tipsarevic won their only previous match earlier this year, also on a hard court.

Dodig is likely to be another player whose head could well be on his previous match which ought to hand the advantage to Tipsarevic but his match with Verdasco was full of errors. He had a match point in the second set but wasn’t able to convert and Verdasco took the set on a tie break.

I think this will be close and I expect Tipsarevic will take it due to a drop in intensity from Dodig.

Update: This went pretty much as expected. Dodig was poor in the first set and looked almost in a daze. He made more of a fight of it in the second set but Tipsarevic played well and was always in control.

Tipsarevic won 6-1, 6-4.

Fish and Gulbis go head to head so soon after the Farmers Classic final which was Gulbis win in 3 sets. You can bet that Fish wants to get a little revenge today and i feel that loss in the final was due in part to Fish being fatigued. Fish took care of Lopez in the last round in 2 easy sets and Gulbis is here because Llodra retired although Gulbis was playing and serving well enough.

Fish will be fired up for this one and whilst it could well be another 3 setter I think its the American who takes it.

Update: Great match and in particular a great third set. Gulbis was the better player in the firsts et and Fish had to dig deep to pull back in the second. The third set was very entertaining and worth staying up for.

Fish won 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
