11:00 – Dementieva v Zvonareva
Rankings are 10 and 4. Head to heads are 4-2 to Dementieva.
Both players have been impressive this week and have won their matches easily in straight sets.
Both can be shaky on second serve winning less than 50% on the weaker serve.
Dementieva has slightly better stats on return of serve and wins more break point chances.
Demetieva has recently revamped her service action. It seems to have made a small difference but hasn’t moved her into my list of WTA players I would consider backing on serve.
It will a close match which ever way it goes and I have a gut feeling towards Zvonareva. She has matured a great deal over recent months and the tantrums that were her trademark have all but disappeared.
I expect several breaks of serve especially in the opening few games.
Laying the serve in the first 2 or 3 games is an option. Alternatively, wait for one player to break serve and then lay that player. There is a high likelihood of their opponent breaking straight back and you get to lay at a lower price.
