An excellent day on all fronts yesterday. The Shark Tips and Wins a Set services both had excellent results and the trading session went swimmingly too! I like days like that!

Today looks a little trickier. A few players have retired recently or at least struggled with injury. We also have a few who have had excellent runs in recent weeks and knowing when they will want to take a breather before the US Open is like trying to figure out what the problem is when a woman says everything is “FINE”.

Vesnina may be a little rusty not having played since she lost in the second round in Wimbledon. She is up against Cornet who is having a great season but showed signs of needing one of those rests last week.

I am hoping that Vesnina starts slow and i can lay Cornet a break up. Vesnina has a reputation for being a choker but when she is in form she is a joy to watch ( and not just because of her huge smile as she goes up to hit the serve).

Cornet leads the head to heads 2-1 but they haven’t player for over 3 years.

Update: Cornet took the early lead and I laid her. Vesnina broke back. I left all my green on Vesnina but she just couldn’t hold serve easily if at all. Cornet took the set. In set 2 it was a very similar story. Cornet broke first, then Vesnina, then Cornet!

Cornet won 6-3, 6-3.

Kuznetsova  v Davis is a funny one. They played in the last round of qualifying and Davis won in 3 sets. Kuznetsova is the Lucky Loser and so moved into the main draw and they end up playing each other again!

Kuznetsova is a bigger price than she was for the last one which is understandable. She is coming back from injury and is unlikely to be 100% . I will look to lay her below 1.20 .

Update: Kunetsova went a set and a break up. Davis came back and won the second set. She then took a 4-0 lead in the 3rd. Kuznetsova came back  to 4-4 and served for the match at 5-4. Davis broke her and broke again for the win.

Davis won 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.

Janowicz looks a strong pick to beat Benneteau whose recent form has been below par. However Janowicz retired against Verdasco in Hamburg with a right arm injury. Might be best to avoid this one. 1.43 is too low with the injury doubts anyway.

Stepanek has a 3-1 head to head advantage over Almagro. Last year in the Rogers Cup he beat Dolgopolov and Del Potro before losing in 3 sets to Tommy Haas.

Almagro hasn’t had a match on hard courts recently and the transition from one surface to another often throws him for a set. Stepanek reached the third round in Washington and I think he will make the faster start today. If I had to pick one player who will want to rest a little before the US Open it would be Almagro. He reached the 4th round there last year incidentally beating Stepanek in the first round!

Update: Stepanek took the first set and was a break ahead in the second. Almagro fought back which I wasn’t really expecting. The lead swapped hands a few times in the third set but it was Stepanek who came through.

Stepanek won 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.

Granollers has played a lot of tennis recently and all of it on clay. I think Dimitrov will be controlling their match today but his starting price of 1.28 has already factored in the Granollers fatigue. I will monitor this one and if I see over 1.60 I am in.

Update: Granollers was first to break and i backed Dimitrov who broke back. Again I left my green on him. Bad move. Dimitrov truly is “Baby Fed”. Bloody useless!

Granollers won 6-4, 6-4.

Will Stosur want to go deep into this tournament having won a rare title last week and we’re getting close to the only slam she has won. Unfortunately I think she would find it harder to lose her match against Julia Glushko than to stroll through it. One to keep any eye on but I think we will have to wait for the next round to lay her.

Update: I had gone to bed by the time this started. Pity as Stosur lost the opening set!.

Stosur won 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
