A late post is on the way for this evening’s games. I have been trying to trade at the same time as working out why my wife’s laptop won’t connect to the new router. It turns out that the lappy doesn’t like the sort of security that we have been using without issue for the last 4 years….
Goerges takes on Hantuchova. They have played just once before which was on a hard court in February this year. Goerges came back from a set down to take it in 3.
Hantuchova has been struggling with her form for a while. We saw some better play from her in Japan but I feel she will need to improve on that to trouble Goerges if the German serves well.
Goerges herself has had a few dodgy losses in recent weeks going down in straight sets to Niculescu and Pliskova and also in 3 sets to Soler Espinosa. Last week in China she showed some better form beating Stosur and narrowly losing to Bartoli.
Goerges starts at 1.64 and I expect her to have the faster start. Part stake on her from the start and I will top up if she goes over evens.
Update: Goerges won 6-4, 7-6.
The late match is Martic v Cirstea. Martic reached the third round in Japan losing to Petrova in a third set tie break having beaten Kvitova and Petkovic in previous rounds.
Cirstea lost out to Laura Robson in their recent semi final match and then lost in the first round in Japan and the second round in China although it was Sharapova who beat her there.
They have never played before but I think if Martic can defend well it will be Cirstea’s game that falls apart first. She starts as slight favourite at 1.74 and I will have a small lay at the start but will look to get most of my stake on below 1.50 .
Update: Cirstea held serve in the opening game and Martic went 0-30 down on her serve giving us the improved lay price. Martic won 6-4, 6-3.
