Tuesday’s matches

Tuesday’s are fast becoming my favourite day. Qualifying rounds are done and we have a full programme of matches to profit from.

There’s an experiment starting today on the forum to see if specific punting tips can be picked with enough accuracy and regularity to make a profit. Please bear in mind that selections for the punts will be different from the good old trading picks and if you choose to use them you do so at your own risk.

Savchuk v Zakopalova

Head to heads are 2-0 although the second one  was due to Zak withdrawing before the match.

Savchuk has had to come through qualifying which she did well with wins over Ursula Radwanksa and Parra Santonja. All 3 matches were won in straight sets.

Zakopalova has been in decent form with a semi final in Korea being the recent highlight.

Both players are weak on serve. Savchuk’s second serve is particularly poor at just 38% of them resulting in the point being won.

I expect this to be packed with breaks of serve. Zak starts as favourite but at 1.43 she is priced too low to back. I would think we will see a price around evens during the first set and I’ll be backing then. Savchuk will probably start slightly better than her opponent as she has had those 3 qualifying rounds already but Zakopalova ought to have too much class on return of serve to pull her through.

Update: Who are you and what have you done with Zak??

Savchuk was terrible on serve as expected but Zak served really well.

Zak won 6-3, 6-1.

Blake v Rochus:

Head to heads are 4-1 to Blake. He has won their last 4 matches but they haven’t played since 2009.

Blake doesn’t venture outside America much these days so he may be fatigued a little by the travelling. Having said that I aren’t sure when he actually arrived in Stockholm

Rochus reached the final of the Rennes Challenger which was played on Sunday. That can affect his performance in the first round here. he only has little legs after all.

I think Blake will be trying to shorten the points especially if he has some tiredness. His form has been pretty good this week and he has improved his ranking by 100 places since the early part of the year.

Rochus has slightly better stats on return of serve and I think this will be a tight match. Blake starts at 1.50 but I expect him to trade higher in the first set. I think anything around 1.70 to 1.80 is a decent price to get involved at.

I think Blake takes this in either 2 tight sets or perhaps 3.

Update: A very tight first set with many missed chances particularly by Blake.

Blake won 7-6, 6-4.
