Tuesday’s matches

Bogomolov retired from his match last week. Chardy reached the final of the Nottingham Challenger, losing in 3 sets to Sela. Chardy played a 3 set final and a 3 set semi final at Nottingham but he should have enough energy left to beat Bogomolov.

Update: Chardy took the first set but Bogomolov came back to win 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Santiago Giraldo reached the quarter finals in Holland last season but last year he played at Queens Club the week before. This year he hasn’t played on grass whereas his opponent Russell has played a couple of matches winning one and losing to Tipsarevic in 2 tie break sets. Russell can be a tough opponent on faster courts when his serve is working but is also capable of putting in an embarrassingly bad display. This is one to watch before getting involved. Giraldo leads the head to heads 3-1 but if Russell is serving well this could be tight.

Update: Giraldo won 7-6, 6-3.

Young – Cox: This one’s best left alone……especially if you’re a Catholic priest.

Update: The priest had a some red on Cox but that was fine as Young won 6-1, 7-5.

Stakhovsky looks a great price at 1.79 against Schuettler. The German leads the head to heads 2-0 but they haven’t played since 2007. Schuettler tends to start matches very well and recently Stak has started badly. Stakhovsky has to be my pick to win but it won’t be easy. I may put half stake on him from the start and manage the position based on what I see. Shuettler often fades after the first set.

Update: Schuettler took the opening set but it was Stak who faded in the second. Schuettler won 6-3, 6-2.

Its tough on Tsonga to have to play today having lost what must have been a draining final yesterday. He only faces Istomin though and I don’t think pride would let let him tank this one.

Update: Tsonga won 6-2, 7-5.
