US Open 2012, week 1 Thursday

The post will be delayed today. I have been out all day leaving me less than an hour to research matches and prepare for the trading session ( don’t try this at home kids!).

I will post between matches so please keep checking back.

Makarova starts at 1.45 against Vesnina. Vesnina knocked Venus Williams out of Wimbldon in straight sets and also beat Peng in the first round this week. I’d expect Makarova to win but she is more than capable of making things difficult for herself and if Vesnina can continue to play something like her best then this could be close.

I will be laying at 1.45.

Jo Konta from Britain had a good win in the first round. Today she is up against Govortsova who has recent wins over Paszek and A Rad. I think another win for the Brit is too much of a tall order but if I can get Govortsova at 1.80 or better I think its a good entry.

Vinci has played a lot of tennis lately and won last week in Dallas. Today’s opponent is Shvedova who is is excellent form and will push the Italian all the way. Vinci is a very consistent player but I fancy the Russian to get the win today. I’ll look to lay Vinci around 1.60 .

James Blake plays his best tennis in America. He played extremely well against Lacko who also produced some great tennis  in the first round. Granollers hasn’t looked at his best on the American hard courts and was terrible against Tsonga.

Blake has an ongoing knee injury which is why he limits his tournaments to more or less just American events. He will get all the crowd’s support and if he gets into  a rhythm on serve Granollers will find it very difficult to break him.

Blake to win in 4 sets.
