US Open 2015 – Men’s Semi Finals

ATP 22:00  – Djokovic v Cilic

Djokovic leads their previous matches 13-0. In 9 hard court matches Cilic has won just 2 sets. One of them was the 2008 US Open.

Djokovic hasn’t looked at his best for a while now. He has lost the 2nd set in his last 2 matches. If Bautista Agut and Lopez can take sets then Cilic has to be in with a chance of taking one. He has done well to come so close to defending his title and I didn’t expect him to get this far. He has had to play a lot of tennis though. His last 3 matches have been two 5 setters and a 4 setter. Not ideal preparation for playing the world number 1.

Djokovic could have been pacing himself up to this point but this is a slam semi final. He will raise his level. I do think Cilic will take a set though. Lets hope its the 1st one so we get a better price.

Back Djokovic if he loses set 1.

ATP 00:00 -Wawrinka v Federer

Federer leads the head to heads 17-3. Their most recent meeting was in the French Open quarter final this year.  Wawrinka won in straight sets. All 3 of Wawrinka’s wins were on clay.

Federer has been in superb form on hard courts. He won the title in Cincinnati without dropping a set. To reach this stage of the US Open he has kept his concentration superbly. He has won his last 25 sets.

Wawrinka didn’t seem like he was focused in the early rounds. He didn’t drop a set in his first 3 matches but 5 of his 9 sets were tie breaks and the others were also close. Against Young in the 4th round  he fell asleep in the second set and lost his only set of the tournament. In his quarter final he was up against an in form Anderson who had beaten Murray in his previous match. The big South African was feeling the effects of his win over Murray and couldn’t compete at the level he had shown in previous rounds. Wawrinka won in straight sets with a 6-0 third set for good measure.

Their last 3 matches on hard courts went to 3 sets. Federer hasn’t dropped a set so far but I expect Wawrinka to raise his level tonight and take a set. Back Fed if he loses set 1.
