WTA 16:00 – Kontaveit v Dellacqua
Dellacqua won their only previous match last season on grass. She won in 3 sets.
The 12 month hard court stats slightly favour Dellacqua although her win/loss record is much better.
Kontaveit has come through the qualifying rounds. She reached the quarter final of an ITF hard court event 2 weeks ago. This is her first time at the US Open.
Dellacqua has struggled a little for results this year but has put in some decent performances. She reached the 4th round last year beating Pliskova.
I favour Dellacqua to win but I think it will be close. Back Dellacqua if she goes a break behind.
WTA 17:30 – Linette v U Radwanska
This is Linette’s first time in the main draw at the US Open.
Radwanska reached the final in Istanbul and whilst she has lost all 3 of her matches since then they were all very close. If she wins today Radwanska will play her sister in the next round.
Unless Urszula has a poor day she should win this one.
Back her if she goes an early break behind. Anything over 1.80 looks decent value though.
ATP, 19:30 – Stakhovsky v Millman
Millman won their previous match on, clay in 3 sets. That was in 2013.
The 12 month stats on hard courts including Challengers all favour Millman. Both have played a lot of Challenger tennis in the last year.
Stakhovsky lost in first round last season. Millman didn’t play last year.
Millman won a Challenger on hard courts 3 weeks ago. Stakhovsky has won just 3 of his last 10.
I give an edge to Millman but don’t back him below 2.20. I expect 4 or 5 sets.
ATP, 01:30 – Coric v Nadal
Coric won their only previous meeting. That was last season on an indoor hard court. He won in 2 sets.
A few people are predicting an upset today. Nadal wasn’t in good shape when they met last October. He is playing better tennis now.
Coric’s hard court form hasn’t been amazing recently. He did take a set from Wawrinka in Cincinnati. The same could be said for Nadal (without the taking a set off Wawrinka bit!).
I do expect Coric to take at least a set but this is best of 5 and Nadal has the edge mentally over Coric.
Nadal won the title in 2013 but then didn’t play last year. He is just inside the top 10 right now and a decent run in this tournament will really boost his points total.
Back Nadal if Coric takes set 1.
