US Open 2015 – Week 1, Wednesday

ATP US Open, 16:00 – Chardy v Klizan

Klizan leads their previous matches 2-1. The most recent was at the US Open in 2012.  Klizan won in 3 sets.

Chardy leads the stats for service holds but everything else goes Klizan’s way in the 12 month hard court stats.

Chardy has only once reached the 3rd round. Klizan lost in the 2nd round last year but reached the 4th in 2012. He has shown some excellent recent form.

This should be close and I expect 4 or 5 sets. Lay Chardy if he breaks first. Tough to pick a winner but the price should be much more even. Chardy should trade a lot higher.

WTA US Open, 18:00 – Jovanovski v Mladenovic

Mladenovic has been the more consistent of the two players this season. Jovanovski occasionally serves well and when she does so can be tough to beat. She did serve well in the last round.

Mladenovic beat a below par Kuznetsova in the first round. She will need to serve better today than she did in that match.

If Jovanovski serves well this could easily go to 3 sets or she will at least get into a winning position in one of the sets.

Lay Mladenovic if she gets an early break or back her if she loses the 1st set. I do expect Mladenovic to win a tight match.
