19:00 – Wozniacki v Zvonareva
Rankiings are 2 and 8. Head to heads are 2-2.
Neither player has lost a set so far.
Wozniacki has the added incentive that winning this tournament also moves her to world number 1. Her service stats wouldn’t look out of place in the ATP. She holds serve 78% of the time and hits her first serve 67% of the time.
Zvonareva holds serve 68% and has better stats on return of serve than her opponent.
If the wind is strong again today then it will be a match full of price swings but Wozniacki handled the conditions very well in her last match so she remains a strong favourite.
Lay Zvonareva on her serve. Also scalping and 15-40 will work well especially in strong wind conditions.
21:00 – V Williams v Clijsters
Rankings are 4 and 3. Head to heads are 6-6 but Clijsters has won their last 4 matches.
Venus relies heavily on her first serve. She wins 80% of points on it but just 43% on her seccond serve. Her service action is not a simple one and if she is distracted by the wind she could be in trouble.
Clijsters has better stats on return of serve and especially against second serves where she wins 67% of points.
Clijsters sometimes starts a little slow which could give an opening to Williams. We could easily see three tight sets here but I am favouring Clijsters to reach the final.
Scalping and/or backing the receiver on second serve should prove profitable.
