16:00 – Ferrero v Simon
Rankings are 25 and 9 although Ferrero won their only previous meeting.
They win 79% and 80% of their service games so this could be a tight match. On recent form I give Simon the edge.
Back Simon on serve and watch for the 15-40
Update: Simon walked the first set 6-1. He then lost the next 2 sets 4-6, 6-7 and retired in the next set after 1 game
20:00 – Clijsters v Williams
Very tough one to call. Clijsters has no ranking but used to be world number 1. She may be nervous for this match as she could have doubts as to whether or not she is ready for Williams.
The world number 3 will want to show that she is now the queen. Clijsters won their last 2 meetings.
I think 15-40 will be ideal for this one. I can see it being a 3 setter 🙂
Update: And a 3 setter it was! Clijsters won the opening set 6-0. Now who predicted THAT? No one. Williams then came back to win the second 6-0! By this point I was +85 on both players. I backed Clijsters when she broke serve and didnt hedge it. As she began to serve for the match I was +155 on Clijsters and had something like -165 on Williams. I figured that if she looked like losing serve I could still get out unharmed. She went 15-40 down and I bottled out and hedged. She came back to win the final set 6-4 and I ended up with a massive 3 quid profit! For most of the final set I could have hedged out for anything from 60 to 105 profit. If I’m honest I was thinkig it would make a nice screenshot for the blog. What a mug! At least I protected the bank….
