14:00 – Simon v Davydenko
Rankings are 52 and 11. Head to heads are 3-1 to Simon.
Simon is in great form and very close to his best. he beat Verdasco very easily in the last round and also beat Nalbandian last week when the Argentinian had chances to serve for the match.
Davydenko may be suffering with his confidence at the moment. He shows flashes of his brilliant best in every match he plays but struggles to maintain it. His serve is not as reliable as it was 12 months ago.
Davydenko won the ATP finals last year and must be very disappointed that he hasn’t even qualified this year. No real motivation for him here.
They hold serve 83% and 81%. Davydenko is known as one of the best returners of serve on the tour but he isnt really living up to that consistently. Having said that his stats on return are slightly better than Simon’s.
Both men are very capable of winning this but Simon has been more reliable lately. As I said I also have doubts about Davydenko’s motivation to do well here.
It could be a tight match and won’t be surprised to see a three setter but Simon is my tip to reach the semi finals.
Back Simon on serve.
