Lorenzi has raced up the rankings in the last 12 to 18 months. He reached the quarter finals last week in Chile where he lost to Chardy.

Montanes’ form has been up and down for that same period. He seems to be concentrating on the clay court events where is still able to compete effectively.

They have played twice before. Both matches were in 2010 with Lorenzi winning on clay and Montanes winning at Wimbledon.

They start more or less at evens in this one and I feel that gives a little more value on Lorenzi as he has been the more consistent. Montanes always has the potential to be a dangerous opponent on clay and I will be waiting for him to stay with Lorenzi for a few games and hope to get a lay on Montanes around 1.70 or better.

Update: Well I got my lay. Unfortunately Montanes played extremely well at the start of the match. He made a few more mistakes as the match progressed but always looked the stronger player.

Montanes won 6-4, 6-4.

Zeballos has won his last 3 tournaments. Two Challengers and then his first ATP tour title last week where he beat Nadal in the final. Clay is probably the toughest surface to play a lot of games on so at what stage does he feel he needs a rest?

Today he pays Capdeville who has had to come through the qualifying rounds. they have played 4 times before and Zeballos won the last 3.

Often wjen a player wins a tournament they suffer a “let down” in the first mattch the following week. I don’t think that will be the case here though.  and with the strong head to head record and sky high confidence I think he will breeze through Capdeville.

Its a decent start price at 1.52 as long as he IS up for the match.

Update: No breezing today. A very tight first set went to Zeballos on a tie break. After that Capdeville won 9 straight games before Zeballos retired.

Capdeville won 6-7, 6-0, 3-0 (ret)
