Wednesday’s matches

Great results on Tuesday. Hopefully more of the same today. A bit unlucky with  the  punting tips but its early days. Nice win from Raonic though.  Wednesday’s are on the forum.

Berrer v Seppi:

This was almost one of the punting tips but even though the previous meeting were all on clay Seppi played ok yesterday and won a hard court Challenger final recently.

Head to heads are 3-2 to Seppi.

Berrer took advantage of a poor performance from Stakhovsky in the previous round but it has to be said he served extremely well.

Over the last 3 months Seppi has held serve 66% of the time compared to Berrer’s 79%. That is a significant difference. Seppi starts as favourite at 1.56 but I expect him to trade higher.

Berrer has a decent record on indoor hard courts and he has a decent chance here. Its worth a lay of Seppi from the start. I think Berrer is favourite to take the first set but after that I aren’t sure. I doubt he will win in straight sets but I give him a slight edge for the win.

Update: The matcgh didn’t appear on the scoreboards until it was 1-2. That was a bit of a bonus as Berrer was broken in his first service game. After that he servde much better but didn’t manage to recover in the opening set. He came back strongly after that and took the match.

Berrer won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Benesova v Kirilenko:

Head to heads are 2-1 to Kirilenko but Benesova’s win was their only meeting on a hard court.

In her last match benesova looked pretty solid on serve although somehow managed to lose the first set! Permentier only had enough energy for 1 effective set.

Kirilenko had a medical time out in her match with Moose Suarez Navarro for an injury to her left knee. However it was actually Carla who retired at 0-3 in the third set.

This could be close as both players are in decent form. If Benesova can stay interested then she should be favourite to win. She tuned out during that first set in the last match and it cost her the set.

Kirilenko’s ground strokes can trouble her opponent but sje will need to keep th eunforced errors to a minimum for her to compete with benesova on a fast court.

A lay of Kirilenko for me

Update: Kirilenko withdrew from the tournament before the match started.
