Gajdosova v Niculescu:
Gajdosova somehow managed to get to the quarter finals in Hobart. Her play has continued to be fragile and she is ok until a few shots start missing.
Niculescu reached the third round at the Australian Open but came up against Wozniacki.
Niculescu won their only previous match which was last April. That was on clay and went to 3 sets.
If Gajdosova can get a break before her game goes tits up then we could see a much better price on the Romanian. I don’t see Gajd being able to hold things together to win 2 sets.
There should be fewer errors from Niculescu and that will be the difference in the end.
Update: Niculescu won the first set easily but Gajdosova came back to take the second. A poor quality match saw Niculescu take a tight third set.
Niculescu won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Goerges v Cetkovska:
They have only played once before, also in France, and Cetkovska won in a 3rd set tie break. That was back in 2007 though so not too relevant.
Goerges starts as strong favourite. She has a decent record in France and looked good against Peer.
Cetkovska has improved her ranking greatly in the last 12 months and last season was able to trouble a lot of the higher ranked players. She hasn’t really shown too much of that form so far this season but is capable of making a decent match of this.
I expect Goerges to come through but she won’t get everything her own way. I am hoping for a better price than her starting price of 1.43 .
