ATP, 16:00 – Sousa v Kohlschreiber
Sousa won their only previous meeting. That was this season on an indoor hard court and he won in straight sets.
Both have a losing record on hard courts in the last 12 months. Sousa leads all stats apart from service holds. Both players lost in the second round last year.
Kohlschreiber took a week off after winning the title on clay in Kitzbuhel. He hasn’t played on a hard court since March.
Sousa has also been in good form on the clay. He played 1 hard court match recently which was last week. He lost to Tomic in 2 sets.
Kohlschreiber looks a little low at 1.33 . Both have been serving well and each set is likely to be settled by a single break. Value is on Sousa.
Back Kohlschreiber if he gets broken early or wait for him to lose set 1 before backing him.
ATP, 17:30 – Pospisil v Kudla
Pospisil leads their previous matches 2-0. Their most recent was in 2013. That was on grass and he won in 3 sets.
Kudla has been on a pretty amazing run since the start of June but I think he has burned himself out a little. He did beat Paire in the qualifying rounds although Paire probably knew he had a Lucky Loser place in the main draw. If Kudla serves well then this will be very close.
I don’t expect many breaks of serve. Wait before entering but backing both on serve is an option. I think we could easily see 3 sets.
WTA, 19:00 – Stosur v Babos
The 12 month hard court stats are quite even. Stosur is well ahead when comparing stats against the same opponents.
Stosur reached the semi finals in Washington. She lost the second set in that match 6-0 to Stephens. She lost her 1st round match to Gavrilova last week.
Babos hasn’t been in good form leading up to this tournament but she has come through the qualifying rounds including a win over Watson.
I expect Stosur to win but she is too low at 1.29. I will lay Stosur around 1.20 or will back her if she gets broken first.
