Wimbledon 2015 – Men’s Quarter Finals

13:00 – Pospisil v Murray

Murray leads their head to heads 3-0. All of them were on hard courts in last 2 seasons ( 2 in 2015). He won them all won in 2 sets.

Three of Pospisil’s 4 matches in this tournament have gone to 5 sets. He must be knackered! He has out performed expectations. He was 2 sets down against Troicki. He was 1-2 down in 2 other matches. Only Fognini was beaten in 4 sets.

Murray has dropped the third set in his last 2 matches. As I have said before this is not unusual in best of 5 sets matches when a player has a 2-0 lead and most certainly isn’t unusual for Murray.

This should be an easy win for Murray. If Pospisil serves at a very high level he may nick a set but Murray has looked in good shape on all surfaces this year and his game suits grass perfectly. It could be worth a cheap lay at 1.04 for a trade but I will wait to see if Pospisil takes the 1st set before backing Murray.

13:00 – Simon v Federer

Federer leads 5-2. Both Simon’s wins were in 2008! They have met in slams twice. Once at the French Open (2013) and one at the Australian Open (2011). Both went to 5 sets.

Simon has played some amazing tennis in the tournament. His match with Monfils was one the most entertaining I have seen for a while with the exception of the French Open Final. Berdych gave him an easy ride in the last round though. No one expected Simon to win that in 3 sets.

Grass is probably Federer’s strongest surface. It suits his game well.  In 3 of his 4 matches he didn’t face a break point. Querrey had 2 break chances but both were saved. Federer did drop a set in a tie break to Sam Groth.

As this is Federer’s best surface I don’t think we see 5 sets this time but I will be amazed if Simon doesn’t take a set.

Back Federer if Simon takes set 1.
