Wimbledon 2015 – Wednesday, week 1

So the top players have started to fall.  Bouchard wasn’t a huge surprise although I think she’d have won if the abdominal tear wasn’t affecting her. Halep just isn’t at her best. She can go AWOL mentally at any time.

The prices today are pretty awful. The plan for today is patience. Wait for the favourites to struggle before backing them. Laying the favourites is a decent option today if they are at crazily low prices.

ATP Wimbledon, 13:00 – Millman v Baghdatis

Millman won their only previous meeting. That was in 2014 and Baghdatis retired.

I told you Robredo wasn’t 100%! Millman played well to beat him in 3 sets. He served at a very high level and didn’t face a single break point.

It was a fairly comfortable win for Baghdatis in 4 sets over Donald Young. He lost the opening set but controlled the match after that. He didn’t seem to have a problem with the injury that forced him to retire last week.

If Millman serves well again he can take this close. I will be very surprised if Baghdatis wins in 3 sets.

Lay Baghdatis if he goes a break ahead.

WTA Wimbledon, 15:30 – Mattek Sands v Ivanovic

Head to heads are 1-1. Both matches were on clay and both went to 3 sets. Ivanovic won in 2013, Sands in 2011.

Sands played well in her last match. Her aggressive style bothered Van Uytvanck and forced a lot of errors from her.

It was an easy win for Ivanovic in the first round.

When Sands is confident she plays a very aggressive style of tennis. Its a bit like Giorgi on speed. Sometimes it works and sometimes she kills a couple of lines judges.

I think it could be worth laying Ivanovic below 1.15 for a trade. She should have the experience to get through but will have to work very hard.
