Wimbledon 2015 – Women’s Quarter Finals

13:00 – Sharapova v Vandeweghe

Sharapova wasn’t particularly impressive yesterday against Diyas. She won just 33% of points on 2nd serve. She hit more double faults than aces. There were 22 UE’s (unforced errors) to 25 winners.

It was another very strong serving match from Coco. She also had a lot of UE’s though matching Sharapova with 22 UE’s to 25 winners. Coco has taken out 3 huge scalps now. Pliskova, Stosur and Safarova.  It will be the best win of her career by far if she wins today but as long as the occasion doesn’t get to her then her serve can keep this tight.

Back Sharapova if she gets broken early. If this turns into a long battle  I favour Sharapova to win the mind games.

14:30 – S Williams v Azarenka

Serena leads their head to heads 17-3 (ouch). They played 3 times on grass in 2012 and 2009. Azarenka didn’t win a set. In the last 3 seasons they played 7 times. Five of them went to a deciding set. Their last meeting on grass was 2012.

Serena was impressive against sister Venus yesterday.  Really they should know each others game better than any other player on the tour which would give Venus an insight into how to beat her. She had won their previous meeting but Serena is on a mission in this tournament.

Azarenka was very impressive against Bencic and made her look very ordinary. There was a little pressure in the second set from you young Swiss player but it was quickly snubbed out.

If Azarenka can continue to serve well and keep her UE’s down she might just nick this one. She has come close in their last 2 meetings. Lay Serena when she is a break ahead in the early games. Alternatively, back Serena if Azarenka takes the opening set.
