Well here we go!
As usual the open couple of days can be a little light on liquidity so be careful which matches you get into. Its just because there are so many more matches than normal and only so much traders/punters money to go round.
Just a reminder that the Mens are best of 5 sets 🙂
12:00 – Andreev v Brands
Rankings are 56 and 100. They haven’t met before.
Both players have consistent first serves. Andreev is known for his big serve but its the rest of his game that lets him down.
Neither tends to do particularly well in grand slams.
This is the first grass tournament that Andreev has played. In his last match in May he retired injured. He was a set up at the time. He has not had time to make the transistion from clay to grass which puts him at a definate disadvantage.
Watch how the opening couple of games go but I would be looking to back Brands on serve.
Andreev’s right ankle injury could well cause him problems if not 100 healed. Sliding on grass is very hard on the ankles. Avoid having red on Andreev after the first set.
Brands starts as slight favourite on betfair. If he is smrt he will move Andreev around especially if the Russian seems to be having problems with that ankle.
Back Brands on serve.
Update: Brands won 7-6, 7-6, 7-5.
15:00 – Tursunov v Schuettler
Rankings are 147 and 72. They haven’t played before.
Schuettler has been playing great tennis recently. He reached the semi final of the Aegon Championships losing to eventual Champion Querrey. At 34 he is one of the older players but is superbly fit and can run all day. He has been playing strong, attacking tennis.
Tursunov reached a ranking of 20 in 2006 but is well past his best. He hasn’t had much recent success.
I expect a straight sets win for Shuettler.
Back Shuettler from the start or on serve
Update: Schuettler won 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.
