13:00 – Clijsters v Henin
Rankings are 8 and 16. Head to heads are 12-10 to Clijsters. She has won both their matches since the Belgian pair came back to the WTA tour this year.
The market has Henin as a slight favourite. Both have won titles in the last couple of months.
Clijsters has the more consistent serve and is perhaps the smarter player. Henin makes up for that with her fighting spirit if she goes behind.
Clijster’s game is more suited to grass. She has the bigger serve and also possesses a sliced backhand that will stay low on grass. She can use that to bring Henin into the net where she is less comfortable.
Both their matches since their return were settled in third set tie breakers so we should expect another close game.
I am giving the edge to Clijsters. If she is serving to her normal standard then she can be backed on serve.
Other than that scalping is the way to trade it IMO.
Update: In the first set Clijsters was awful. Every part of her game was poor and Henin took advantage with a quick break. Henin took a fall in the first set and the market got a bit jumpy for a few seconds as traders though it was more serious than it actually was. Henin closed out the set quite easily.
In the second set Clijsters started to wake up a little and after a couple of tight games it was Henin who was poor. She was getting into positions to threaten Clijster’s serve but was wasting the opportunities by trying to go for big winners from the second serve. Clijsters took the second set fairly easily.
In the third set it was tight as both players held serve well. It was going with serve and Clijsters was 4-3 up. She got to 15-40 against the serve and completed the break to 30. She served out the next game to take the set and the match.
Clijsters won 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
15:00 – Djokovic v Hewitt
Rankings are 3 and 26. Head to heads are 3-1 to Djokovic with him winning the last 3 matches.
Djokovic had a scare in the first round when he was 2 sets to 1 down to Rochus. He hasn’t lost a set since.
Hewitt has lost just 1 set so far and beat Monfils in the last round in straight sets.
Most of the stats have the two men very close. Hewitt is in top form and won the Gerry Weber Open earlier this month beating Federer in the final.
Djokovic isn’t having the best of seasons so far. I have seen him struggle in the past in hot weather and the forcast today is for 29 degrees in London.
Djokovic wins 79% of his service games to Hewitt’s 77%.
It should be a great match and if it comes down to a scrap, especially on recent form, I would have to give the edge to Hewitt.
I usually find it a little nervy backing Djokovic on serve against top players and for that reason I will be backing Hewitt on serve.
Update: A very tight match with both men serving well. The first set was looking like going to a tie break but Djokovic managed to break whilst at 6-5 to take the set.
A similar story in the second set saw Djokovic getting a late break to take a two sets to love lead.
I stopped following the match at this stage but Hewitt managed to pull a set back before Djokovic took the fourth set andwith it the match.
