Wimbledon Women's Semis

The 4 top seeds fight for a place in the final…

Dementieva v Serena Williams

The official head to head figures for 2009 are 2-1 in Dementieva’s favour but the last one was a walkover so can be discounted ( Williams pulled out before the match). Both ladies haven’t lost a set so far and have looked in good form. The market has Williams at 1.21 which seems way to short. If I had to pick a winner ( and we know what a great gambler I would make!) it would be Williams but expect her price to be higher than 1.21 . Possibly a 3 setter. As usual with WTA games, 15-40 is the way to go. Alternatively, lay Williams from the start and get out for 10 ticks profit.

Update: Williams won in 3 sets, 8-6 in the final set. Got that about right!  Layed Williams at 1.22 and greened up at 1.32. Lots of trading opportinities throughout the match and 15-40 worked very well.

Safina v Venus Williams

Venus’ price at the time of writing is identical to her sister’s at 1.21 . Also too low. The outcome of the match is down to Safina’s mental strength. She will need to be on her very best form to stand a chance. Williams will, I feel, be too strong and could wipe the floor with the number 1 seed. Safina won their last meeting but it was on clay. Not the American’s favourite surface. How to trade it? 15-40 could be good if Safina turns up. Really cant see it. Watch the first set and if Williams’ has her serve broken, back her.

Update: As predicted, an easy win for Williams, 6-1, 6-0
