Not a long post today as it’s been a busy morning.
Federer takes on David Ferrer for the 15th time. He has won the previous 14 matches between the pair.
Their last 2 matches were at last years World Tour Finals and then on the clay in Madrid. Both were straight sets wins but all 4 sets were close. With the form that Ferrer is in there’s an outside chance that he can nick a set but it would require a poor set from Federer to make that a reality.
I’m hoping for a higher price on Federer. Ferrer’s best chance is to catch Fed napping in the early games. I really don’t believe Ferrer has any chance of winning this. No one beats Ferrer 15 times in a row…..not yet anyway.
Update: Pretty much as expected. Two close sets with Federer doing just enough and playing the big points well.
Federer won 6-4, 7-6.
In the evening match its Del Potro and Tipsarevic. Del Potro leads the head to heads 3-0 and hasn’t lost a set to Tipsarevic.
Del Potro starts at 1.23 . His serve has looked a little fragile against Ferrer. Whether Tipsarevic will be able to take advantage is another matter. Whilst I am a Tipsarevic fan but he isn’t always the smartest on court. Just because he has philosophers’ quotes tatoo’d on his arms doesn’t mean he’s read them.
Again, I’ll be hoping for a higher price. A slow start from Del Potro would be perfect and if he goes a break down I am backing him.
Update: No higher price. Del Potro won 6-0, 6-4.
