McHale leads their previous matches 2-1. Their only recent meeting was in August last year. She won in 3 sets in Washington on a hard court. Vandeweghe’s win was also on a hard court in the Surprise ITF tournament in 2008.
On grass over the last 12 months they are reasonably evenly matched. However if we compare their stats against the same opponents Vandeweghe is streets ahead.
Vandeweghe won the title in s-Hertogenbosch last week. She had a tough 1st match this week against Radwanska but beat her in 3 sets.
McHale has been a little disappointing recently. She did get a good win in the last round as underdog but most weeks this year she has not won back to back main draw matches.
My one doubt about Vandeweghe is the fatigue factor. Her body seems to let her down quite frequently.
I will give her a chance today but will wait for her to be broken first before I back her. She starts around 1.41 .
