Due to start at 8 am
Bacsinszky 3.15, Muguruza 1.45
Muguruza leads their previous matches 4-1. Their last meeting was in Madrid in May 2017. Bacsinszky won on clay in straight sets. Muguruza won both their hard court matches including one at the Australian Open in 2015. She won in 3 sets that day.
Much better hard court results for Muguruza in the last 12 months. She won 68% of her matches compared to 46% for Bacsinszky.
Bacsinszky hasn’t lost a set so far. Both her opponents made her life easier than it might have been. Kasatkina continued her slow start to 2019 and won took just 3 games. Vikhlyantseva put up more of a fight and kept the second set close but it was another straight sets win for the Swiss player.
Muguruza played a strong match to beat Konta in the last round. She won 7-5 in the 3rd set but didn’t face a single break point in an extremely tight encounter.
I have to favour Muguruza to come through this one but wait for 1.70 or better before backing her.
Update: Update: Strong performance from Bacsinszky and she took a 4-1 lead but Muguruza came back to win 7-6, 6-2.
