Vandeweghe leads their previous matches 3-1. They last met at the Australian Open in January this year. Vandeweghe won in straight sets on a hard court. She won both their previous grass matches ( both in 2014).
Slightly better stats this year for Vandeweghe. She reached the semi finals in Melbourne losing out to Venus Williams in 3 sets. She is undefeated in her 4 Fed Cup matches and also made the quarter finals on clay in Madrid. Last year she reached the 4th round at Wimbledon. She struggled to find her grass form last week but has been much stronger and consistent in this tournament.
Muguruza has saved her best tennis for the bigger tournaments in 2017. Quarter finals in Melbourne after she had reached the semis in Brisbane. She has some injury problems after that but sorted herself out for a quarter final in Indian Wells and a 3rd round in Miami. On clay she finished in the Semi finals in Rome and made the second week in the French Open reaching the 4th round.
On grass they are very closely matched. We have some value on Muguruza if she is interested in the match. However I expect Vandeweghe to be a little more motivated.
Back Vandeweghe if she gets broken.
