Jessika Ponchet 2.18, Nicole Gibbs 1.82
Due to start at 6 pm
Gibbs won their only previous meeting. That was in July 2017 in the quarter finals of the ITF hard court tournament in Winnipeg, Canada. She won in 3 sets after losing a tight opening set.
Gibbs has better overall results in 2019. She doesn’t play many indoor tournaments. She came through the qualifying round this week and battled well to beat Tamara Zidansek in the main draw. Zidansek played much better than I expected. Both players faced 16 break points in that match and were both broken 6 times.
Ponchet also came through the qualifying round. She then beat Kateryna Kozlova as underdog in the main draw. She beat her in 2 very close sets and served pretty well. She has a decent record indoors but most of her wins were over very low ranked opponents.
This should be tight. We have a strong chance of seeing 3 sets. I give Gibbs a slight edge but her serve needs to improve from her first round performance. Back Gibbs round 2.20.
