WTA Eastbourne, Semi Final: Bertens v Pliskova

Due to start at 12:30 pm

Bertens 2.66, Pliskova 1.59

Bertens leads their previous matches 3-2. They last played in Canada last August on a hard court. Bertens won comfortably in straight sets. She won their only grass match at Wimbledon last season in 2 sets. Pliskova won on clay in 2018 and her other win was due to retirement.

Pliskova’s recent form has not been great but she has won her matches this week extremely easily. She was broken once in the first round and has not lost her serve since.

Bertens had an easy first round win over Putintseva. She had to work a bit harder against Anna-Lena Friedsam. She won in straight sets and only lost 6 games but 3 of those were breaks of serve. She hit 10 double faults and found the court with less than  half her first serves.  In the quarter final she had her toughest test. Her first serve was a little better but she needed 3 sets to get past Aryna Sabalenka.

I see some value on Bertens and I think we get 3 sets. Stats for the tournament favour Pliskova. Back her around 1.85 to 1.90 or wait for her to be broken before backing her. If Pliskova breaks first we can lay her and remove liability when Bertens breaks back.
